SnipURL offers users a way to create a shorter website link out of a longer one. For example, item pages or sub pages found on websites that include a lengthy extension can be trimmed down to a far more manageable length using this application. The link can then be easily shared with others, remembered, or posted on character limiting forums and blog websites.

The creators of SnipURL wanted to find a way to offer URL shortening service to website visitors. Rather than simply offering a basic web-based application, SnipURL was also designed with the end user in mind. A number of other websites offer a similar service, but SnipURL offers registration and customer service options to assist users. This has amounted in many return customers and new visitors over recent months. Today, the application still serves the same purpose, but does so with more options and accessibility.

SnipURL serves a similar purpose as other applications intended for URL shortening. However, users can find more on the website than is noticed on first glance. These additions make SnipURL a more engaging option for users. A helpful user help area presents solutions and also displays vital contact information for further assistance. Users can also create an account to manage their URLs, rather than just creating them.

SnipURL has combined professional elements with more personal ones. The fun logo, resembling both a person and pair of scissors, is accompanied by the playful “snippetty snip snip” motto. However, the site layout is well organized and offers a gently blue color scheme that is very easy on the eyes. No flashy banner ads or annoying pop ups either, just helpful links and information users need. Everything is easy to find, with three main tabs prominently displayed at the top of each page.

Users can choose to create a login for SnipURL. This is helpful for return visitors who are building a list of their favorite shortened URLs. By clicking the register button in the top right hand navigation bar, users are taken to the registration form. The only required information is a username, password and email address. Just enter the information, click the terms of service check box and hit the “Start power-snipping” button at the bottom. Verification is not required and the user is taken directly to the account page. Here, settings can be modified including language; default privacy key and default prefix variations.

The price is perhaps one of the best things about SnipURL. Although they have developed additional features to help users manage and create “snipped” URLs, the service is offered completely free. There is no fee required and no premium account option currently exists. That being said, SnipURL does provide users with three ways to support the site. The first way is through a PayPal donation, the other is through the purchase of SnipURL merchandise. The third is by offering a word of feedback to promote the site. Individuals who frequent the internet can really appreciate what SnipURL has to offer. With the free account creation, it is very easy to manage existing URLs or add to lists. There is a community element added through the “interesting snips” tab which highlights recent additions to the snipped URL library that might be intriguing to visitors. The topics vary greatly, providing something for almost anyone.
